The
Greater Michigan area was tremendously honored when UA General
President Martin Maddaloni was the special speaker at the
National Signing Day held in Ann Arbor during the recent UA
Instructor Training Program. Under the direction of General
President Maddaloni and working with International Representative
Don House, the Director for the new HVACR Service and Residential

The
collective bargaining agreement between UA Local 190 and the
Greater Michigan Plumbing & Mechanical Contractors Association
has for the past twenty years, had provisions for Residential
Work. The Residential Agreement was drastically overhauled
in the late 80's to provide contractors with greater flexibility
as they hired residential workers. This greatly increased
the number of homes that our contractors were able to cover.
UA Local 190's current Business Manager Ron House continued
the creation of programs to assist with securing this marketplace
as he worked with PMC President Sandra Miller and our Residential
Committee to organize a new Residential Training Program.
UA
President Maddaloni spoke of the UA placing a strong emphasis
on obtaining more of the residential marketplace. He noted
that this will greatly increase the tools that our contractors
have to obtain work in this field. Gary Hamilton, UA Representative
for Residential emphasized that with the UA National Residential
Agreement, our contractors and workers will be able to travel
across Michigan.
This
will increase the work of the UA Member. The commitment of the
new UA HVACR Service and Residential Department was emphasized
by its' Director, International Representative Don House.
Utilizing
the UA's format, the Association and UA 190 will be jointly
sponsoring a Homeowner Protection Program. Along with these
two positive additions, UA 190 has added an Organizer to their
staff specifically for the residential and service trades.
